At SUNY Oneonta, keeping students and their families informed is a top priority. From important academic updates to campus-wide emergency notifications, there are several key platforms and tools designed to keep everyone in the loop.

Student Communication: Email & MyOneonta Portal

The Oneonta.edu email address is the primary method of communication between the university and students. Whether it’s messages from professors, billing updates, or university announcements, it all comes through Outlook, part of the Microsoft 365 suite available to every student. Encourage your student to check their email daily to stay on top of important information!

Students also have access to the MyOneonta Portal, which is the central hub for all digital campus services, including:

  • Microsoft Outlook and other Microsoft 365 apps
  • Announcements and updates from the university
  • Student Web Services (class registration, financial aid, billing, etc.)
  • Brightspace LMS (for course materials and grades)
  • IT Service Desk (for tech support)
  • Library Services
  • And much more!

How Families Stay Informed

While most official communication goes directly to students, families can stay connected in a few key ways:

1. Oney Events Broadcast (Weekly Newsletter)

Families are encouraged to sign up for the Oney Events Broadcast, a weekly email newsletter that highlights campus events, programs, and community updates. It’s a great way to stay involved and in-the-know.

2. Campus Connection & Corq App

SUNY Oneonta shares student events and announcements via Campus Connection and the Corq App. While these are geared toward students, families can ask their student to share highlights or upcoming activities.

3. O-Alert: Emergency & Urgent Notifications

In the case of campus-wide emergencies, weather-related closures, or urgent health and safety updates, SUNY Oneonta uses O-Alert to notify the campus community via email, text, and phone call.

Important: Students must opt-in through their MyOneonta Portal to receive O-Alert texts and calls, and they can add up to five contacts, so family members can be included in these critical alerts as well.

Stay Connected, Stay Informed

As your student embarks on their college journey, staying informed can help you support them from afar. Encourage them to check their Oneonta email daily and explore MyOneonta regularly. And don’t forget to sign up for the Oney Events Broadcast and ask to be added to their O-Alert contact list, because staying connected makes all the difference.
